Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
Instructions:
- Melt Butter:
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add Garlic:
- Add minced garlic to the butter and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.
- Make Roux:
- Sprinkle the flour over the garlic and butter mixture. Whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a roux. Do not let it brown.
- Add Milk:
- Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture is smooth and starts to thicken.
- Add Cheese and Seasonings:
- Add the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and optional dried herbs. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is well combined.
- Simmer:
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until it reaches your desired thickness. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Cool:
- Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before spreading it on your pizza dough.
