White Pizza Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Melt Butter:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add Garlic:
    • Add minced garlic to the butter and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Make Roux:
    • Sprinkle the flour over the garlic and butter mixture. Whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a roux. Do not let it brown.
  4. Add Milk:
    • Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture is smooth and starts to thicken.
  5. Add Cheese and Seasonings:
    • Add the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and optional dried herbs. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is well combined.
  6. Simmer:
    • Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until it reaches your desired thickness. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Cool:
    • Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before spreading it on your pizza dough.
